How to Stop Self-Sabotage?

Dear reader, I hope this message finds you with the spirit of motivation even if you are feeling down and not having the highest hopes. I hope that there is a twinkle of yearning for change and that this can be enough to move you out of “stuck-ness” and into positive action. Today we’re going to talk about self-sabotage.

What is Self-Sabotage?

For me, a lot of the time, it comes down to fear holding you back–  because you could get hurt, because you could mess up, or because you could fail. So what is easier sometimes is just staying in the status quo of never changing,  being immovable or unchangeable. But the thing is, the longer we stay stuck in the same pattern the more we disconnect from ourselves and our joy.  Movement and change is essential to keep growing and prospering in our life and relationships. Just because you’ve made mistakes in the past or had bad experiences doesn’t mean that will always be the case.

So How Can We Stop Ourselves from Self-Sabotage?

For me, it comes down to four steps. First, stop letting that negative voice in your head call the shots. Secondly, identify the feeling attached to what is keeping you from moving forward. Third, make peace with your thoughts and feelings through acceptance. Give them the time they are owed and release them to create space and change. Lastly, replace those negative beliefs with a new pattern.

Now that you’ve created this new space for change, what do you want to fill that space with? You are in control of your future and the sentiment you want to carry with yourself throughout the day. If the only thing that is standing in your way from letting go of a toxic relationship, applying to a new job, or maybe even just leaving your job is yourself (and that’s the only thing from stopping you from moving towards your goals), then today could be the day you stop sabotaging your present and your future. It starts by believing in your capability to change. Are you ready to step out of your own way?

I invite you to comment below and share how you’ve seen self-sabotage show up in your life or those around you. If you’ve been successful in breaking this pattern, what was the turning point for you?
